	Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), New Delhi, has sponsored a R&D Project to the Power Capacitors Laboratory of DCCD, CPRI, Bangalore for "Development of Indian Standard for LV Automatic Power Factor Correction (APFC) panels" at an out lay of Rs. 140 Lakhs. Duration of the project is two years from March 2011.

Main objectives of the project are:

1. Design, develop and augment necessary research and testing facilities for 3Φ LV Automatic Power   Factor Correction (APFC) panels
2. Formulate test procedures for assessing the performance of 3Φ LV APFC panels.
3. Develop an Indian Standard Specification for 3Φ LV APFC panels

The project will be executed in association with some of the major manufacturers and major end users of APFC panels. The national standard developed will be beneficial for both manufacturers and utilities, and hence to power sector. The standard will ensure uniform requirement regarding rating, performance & testing and provide guidelines for installation and also to formulate safety requirements. The project when completed will result in state-of-the-art facilities for proper design, development, testing & certification and installation of APFC panels and consequently minimize losses of distribution systems.
