![]() High Temperature Drop Tube Reactor (DTR) - MTD
The Head of the Division ![]() High Temperature (1500°C) Drop Tube Reactor system designed and developed by CPRI for NTPC-NETRA, Greater Noida (2017) The growing demand in power and the concern towards the emission from coal fired power plants, the research on coal is on high priority to improve the efficiency of the boilers and reduce emissions to zero level. The high temperature DTR system simulates the heating rates as prevailing in pulverized coal boilers and assessment of the combustion behavior of coal particles in controlled conditions. The combustion reactivity, pyrolysis characteristics and ash deposition mechanisms of coal and coal blends can be studied using this system at different combustion conditions. The data obtained from DTR system is immensely helpful in optimizing the operating conditions of the boiler, while utilizing specific coals/coal blends for achieving improved boiler efficiency and lowering emission. The efficiency of the additives intended for reducing slagging/fouling conditions can be assessed at laboratory level using DTR. The DTR also provides vital inputs for CFD simulations for designing new boilers and retrofitting old boilers. ÂÂ CPRI had earlier designed and developed a 1000°C Drop Tube Reactor system for Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) in the year 2001 and the same is utilized for research at CIMFR till date. ![]() Drop Tube Reaction system (1000°C) designed and developed by CPRI for CIMFR, Dhanbad (2001)
